A makeup booking can mean an alarm at four, a drive across town and a morning cleared for one party. If the bride cancels the week before, that morning is gone, and you cannot easily fill an early Saturday at short notice. That is the reason deposits exist in this trade. A good deposit page is brief, friendly and factual.
Say what is being reserved
A deposit for a makeup artist reserves a date, an arrival time and often the time you set aside for a trial. Spell that out. People accept a deposit more easily when they see it as holding something specific.
Different bookings may need different amounts. A single appointment, a bridal package with a trial and a larger party each carry different time commitments. Listing each type with its own deposit keeps things straightforward.
Items to include in your deposit terms
- ✓What the deposit holds — the date, the start time and the trial
- ✓How much and when — due at booking, balance on the day or earlier
- ✓Changes of date — whether it can move and by when
- ✓Cancellations — your own policy on notice and what happens to the deposit
The travel and group-size detail
Many artists travel to the venue. Mention that travel is covered in the quote or added to it, and that the final group size can affect the timing. When these are stated before payment, the deposit becomes the confirmation of an agreed plan, not a surprise.
For group bookings, ask for a headcount and a start time on the booking form. If the headcount changes, the page can say how to tell you and by when.
Getting ready
- ✓Package list — with deposit per type
- ✓Trial policy — whether a trial is included and when it takes place
- ✓Payment tool — existing, or Square for deposits
- ✓Policy page text — your rules, in your own words
Peak seasons
Wedding season, prom and holiday parties produce a wave of requests. Stating that dates are confirmed on receipt of the deposit tells people how to secure a slot, and keeps you from holding unpaid dates for weeks.
What to expect, honestly
- ✓Refund and rescheduling terms are yours — we show them, we do not set them
- ✓We do not provide contracts — we link to any agreement tool you use
- ✓Payment fees belong to the provider — Square and others charge their own rates
