Before a faith-based nonprofit’s site is built, settle how openly you want to describe the faith behind the work, because that choice shapes every page that follows. Supporters from your congregation and neighbors who simply want to help both need to understand the mission, the people served and how to take part. Agree on that tone and gather the program details.
How the launch unfolds
To start: You send mission wording, programs and volunteer roles, and leadership agrees on the faith language the site will use.
Week 1: The programs and get-involved pages are drafted, with service days and drop-off times written clearly enough for a newcomer.
Week 2: The stories and contact pages are built, permissions are rechecked, and the donate and volunteer buttons are tested on a phone.
Go-live: Your board or pastor approves the final version and we publish.
What to gather before you start
- ✓Mission and faith wording — a short statement approved by your leadership, including any scripture or tradition you want to name
- ✓Program summaries — food pantry, tutoring, housing help, prison ministry or family support, with schedules and who is welcome
- ✓Ways to serve — volunteer roles, time commitments, group service days and any training or background checks you require
- ✓Shareable stories — accounts you have permission to use, with names and identifying details changed or removed
- ✓Donation setup — the giving tool your ministry already trusts, plus a sentence on what gifts make possible
The first month after launch
In the first month, share the site with partner congregations and volunteers so they can send others to it. After each service day or program cycle, add a short update with permission for any photos. Before Thanksgiving, Christmas and year-end giving, update volunteer sign-ups and the donation page to reflect seasonal needs. Keep program schedules current when seasons change or volunteers rotate, and update the stories page only with accounts you have permission to share. Recheck the giving link after any change to your donation tool.
Mistakes to avoid at launch
- ✓Writing only for insiders — neighbors unfamiliar with church terms cannot tell whether they are welcome to help or receive help
- ✓Sharing stories with identifying details — the dignity of the people you serve is compromised
- ✓Stating impact figures you cannot document — donors and partner congregations lose confidence when asked for the source
