MOON PIE BAKESHOP PIES COFFEE ORDERS

The night shift

Baked by moonlight,
served by morning.

Every pie in the window was rolled out while the street was asleep. All-butter crust, fruit from the farm stand, and a recipe box that is older than the shop itself. We bake through the night so the first slice comes out of the case still warm, and the last one goes home in a paper box tied with string.

  1. DuskThe dough comes out of the cold. Butter in pea-sized pieces, never smaller, so the crust shatters instead of bends.
  2. LateFruit gets cut by hand and tossed with sugar, lemon and a pinch of salt. It sits and makes its own syrup while we weave the lattice.
  3. Small hoursOvens on. Pies bake low and slow until the filling bubbles through the vents and the edges go deep amber.
  4. SunrisePies cool on the rack, the coffee starts dripping, and the window light comes on. The case is full when the door opens.

The pie case

Twelve pies,
one window.

What's in the case today. Every pie comes by the slice or whole, with a couple of savory ones you take home and bake yourself. When it's gone, it's gone until the next moon rises.

The ones we're known for

Three pies that made the shop.

A whole fruit pie with a leaf-cut crust on a dark table
No. 01The leaf-top appleEvery leaf on the lid is cut by hand and painted with cream, so the top bakes up like autumn on a plate.
A slice of cherry lattice pie on a blue plate
No. 02Sour cherry latticeBright, tart and deep red. The lattice is woven by the same hands every single night.
A slice of crumb-topped pie with a fork
No. 03Apple crumb sliceBrown-butter streusel piled high. The slice that most often comes back for a second.

Whole pies & holidays

We'll write it in crust.

Birthdays, thank-yous, holiday tables, the neighbor who just moved in. Order a whole pie and we'll cut a name or a short note into the top before it goes in the oven.

A preview only. Up to 18 letters fit on the lid.
  1. Pick a flavor from the case, sweet or savory.
  2. Give us a day's notice, or two before a holiday.
  3. Pick it up warm, boxed and tied with string.

Inside the shop

Pull up a stool by the window.

Six stools facing the street, a long marble counter and a case that hums all day. Stay for a slice and a coffee while the sky changes color, or take one for the walk home.

Good to know

Before you come by

Can I reserve a whole pie?

Yes. Whole pies need a day's notice, and two days before any holiday. Savory pies can be picked up unbaked with instructions for your own oven.

Do you have anything gluten-free?

We keep a gluten-free crust for whole-pie orders. Our kitchen uses a lot of flour, so we can't promise it's safe for celiac guests.

When is the case fullest?

First thing in the morning. Popular pies like the sour cherry often sell out by early afternoon on weekends.

Can you do pies for a party or office?

We can bake a run of whole pies or a tray of hand pies for gatherings. Ask at the window and we'll plan it with you.

Before the moon sets

Save me
a slice.

The case fills up at sunrise and empties by dusk. Come early for cherry.
